The Bookkeeping Health Check is a printable 20-item checklist covering account reconciliations, financial statements, supporting records, payroll and tax organization, and recurring bookkeeping responsibilities.
Mark one response for each item and manually count every Needs attention or No or not sure response. The result provides one of three broad categories: Generally organized, Attention recommended, or Professional review recommended.
The checklist measures organization and process readiness only. It does not confirm that the bookkeeping or financial statements are complete, accurate, tax-ready, or compliant.
How to use it in three steps
- Mark one response per checklist item.
- Count each Needs attention and No or not sure response as one flagged item.
- Start with the oldest unreconciled account or most important missing report, then assign an owner and due date.
Important limitations
- The checklist does not independently inspect or verify books and records.
- It does not guarantee complete books, accurate statements, tax readiness, or compliance.
- Use Not applicable only for items that genuinely do not apply.
- General United States educational content only.
